The Montreal Fluency Centre
The Montreal Fluency Centre (MFC) is a non-profit agency, supporting children with speech and language disorders and learning differences. A pioneer in direct, evidence-based treatment, the MFC offers specialized assessment to children from preschool through young adulthood.
Our history
The Montreal Fluency Centre was born in 1987 from a private speech-language pathology practice and incorporated as a charitable institution in 1998. An assortment of clinicians practices under the MFC banner, offering specialized services in speech-language pathology and psychoeducational assessments to the community at large.
What we do
In collaboration with parents and daycare educators or teachers, we work as a multidisciplinary team in the Centre to assess and treat learning and communication difficulties. Treatment services are provided one-to-one and in small groups.
Other things we do
The MFC offers off-site services such as training, mentoring and treatment groups in the following areas of specialization:
- Emergent literacy in preschool
- Phonemic awareness and explicit reading strategies
- Spelling and word structure
- Oral language for story-telling
- Reading comprehension
- Written expression
- Social thinking and communication groups
- Assessment and treatment of stuttering in preschool, school age, adolescent and young adults
Since our establishment as a charitable institution, the MFC has raised over $3M, allowing us to develop and expand a Summer Language Camp, an Early Intervention Stuttering Program, a Phonological Awareness for Literacy Program and an Emergent literacy program with preschool an daycares.
In addition to our assessment and treatment services, the MFC provides continuing education and training to other professionals. We also offer a guest speaker series focused on problem-based learning for clinical education.

Our Mission
The mission of the Montreal Fluency Centre is to partner with the community to serve children from preschool to young adulthood with difficulties in communication, stuttering, learning, and literacy. Our goal is to reduce the long-term risks of difficulties students face and minimize the impact that they may have on students’ lives. As learning and communication leaders, we are committed to understanding and meeting the needs of children and youth, families, and our shared communities through collaboration and innovative, research-based practices.
