Sandra Furfaro began her career as a teacher at the Protestant School Board of Greater Montreal (PSBGM) and then the English Montreal School Board (EMSB). She has held several positions including Vice-Principal and Principal at both the elementary and secondary levels, Assistant Director and Director of Pedagogical Services, as well as Director of Educational and Technology Services, also assuming responsibility for the Information Technology Services Department.

Mrs. Furfaro believes in working closely together as a community of clinicians, students, and parents to create the conditions that will help students be globally aware, creative, lifelong learners, and to become successful in later life.

Marlene Desjardins, Ph.D.

On staff at the MFC since 2005, Dr. Marlene Desjardins provides comprehensive psycho-educational assessments, one-on-one remedial therapy (a form of tutoring for students with learning disorders) and consultation to parents, teachers and tutors. She is clinical director of the Taylor Adolescent Program, an after-school clinical intervention for adolescents with learning disabilities. Dr. Desjardins holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours Psychology) from the University of Ottawa, a Master of Arts (Educational Psychology) from McGill University and a Ph.D. (School and Child-clinical Psychology) from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto. Andrea Gingras has worked at the MFC since graduating from the University of Alberta in 1995. Her current practice focuses on language and learning disabilities in school-age children, specifically in the area of literacy. She is a member of the International Dyslexia Association and mentors the MFC’s clinical team in all matters related to reading, spelling and written language. Other areas of interest include Emergent Literacy and Bilingual Literacy. She is currently the Clinical Manager of the Centre. Read full profile >

Antonietta Conte has worked at the MFC since graduating from McGill University in 1998. She has a wide range of general practice but specializes in the assessment and treatment of children with language-based learning disabilities, as well as literacy from early school age to high school. Kaylee joined the Montreal Fluency Centre team in September of 2021. After graduating from McGill University with a Bachelor of Arts in Honours Linguistics and the University of Toronto with a Master of Health Science in Speech-Language Pathology, she was thrilled to find a home at the MFC. Joseph D’Intino, Ph.D

Joseph joined the MFC psychology team in 2023, conducting psycho-educational assessments with remote Indigenous communities and at the MFC. Joseph’s doctoral research focused upon improving executive functioning skills (i.e. planning, goal-setting, time management, etc.) in adolescents. He has also researched differentiated instruction and best practices within school psychology. Joseph has much clinical experience working in schools and with disadvantaged youth, as well as with children with attachment and behavioural difficulties. Some of his professional experiences include coordinating a resource department at The Study, an independent Quebec school for girls, as well as overseeing the management of Tyndale St Georges Community Centre as executive director and then as chair of the board of directors. Joseph’s professional goals are focused upon improving accessibility to psychology and education services for youth.

Nesma Etoubashi joined the Montreal Fluency Centre in 2023 and offers psychoeducational assessment services under the supervision of Dr. Marlene Desjardins. Nesma holds an Honours Baccalaureate in Biomedical Science, Minor in Psychology, CO-OP from the University of Ottawa, a Master of Arts in School/Applied Child Psychology from McGill University, and is currently a doctoral candidate in the School/Applied Child Psychology program at McGill University. Nesma has completed her clinical requirements for her doctoral degree and is in the process of completing her doctoral research. Nesma is fluently bilingual in English and French. After graduating from the State University of New York in 2008, Julia Levy worked for a New York City–based pediatric clinic, in the areas of speech and language. Part of the MFC team since September 2012, Ms. Levy assesses and treats speech and language difficulties in both preschoolers and school-age children. Catherine Rebellati has worked at the MFC since graduating from the University of British Columbia in 1997. She assesses and treats preschool children with a variety of speech and language disorders and has developed a specialty in early intervention for children with emerging communication skills. Marie- Ève joined the MFC team in 2017. Following her studies in Psychoeducation, she worked at numerous schools in Montreal, as well as community organizations, as both an educational therapist and coordinator. She has vast experience with elementary and high school students who have been diagnosed with learning and/or developmental disorders. In fact, her psycho-pedagogical approach is geared towards students presenting with complex and/or persistent challenges. Her practice includes explicit strategic teaching, remediation and academic coaching. She also offers mentoring to parents and educators. She is currently the coordinator for the French program of SAIL and the coordinator of the Summer BLITZ program.

Yael Shaffir has worked at the MFC since graduating from McGill University in 2000. Her general practice includes assessment and treatment of speech and language impairments in preschool and school-age children. Ms. Shaffir has also helped develop and run the MFC’s Social Language Group and Oral Narrative Groups and has been involved in diverse community outreach programs. Jillian Budd joined the MFC school psychology team in March 2021. She is a doctoral candidate in School/Applied Psychology at McGill University. Jillian holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours Psychology) from Concordia University and a Master of Arts (School/Applied Child Psychology) from McGill University. Currently, at the centre, Jillian provides comprehensive psycho-educational assessments from preschool to CEGEP and university levels. She also provides coaching services to support parents in managing challenging behaviours. In addition, Jillian has been a part of the Taylor Adolescent Program team (an after-school program for students grades 5 – 11 who have learning disabilities, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and/or autism spectrum disorder) in various capacities. Jillian has over 17 years of experience working with children and adolescents with learning, emotional, and behavioural difficulties.

Dr. Rosalee Shenker, Ph.D.

With a Ph.D. from McGill University, Dr. Rosalee Shenker has specialized in fluency disorders for over 40 years. She is Adjunct Professor at McGill University, School of Communication Sciences and Disorders, and has taught a graduate course in Stuttering Disorders in Children. As a founding member of the Lidcombe Program Training Consortium she coordinates clinical training for the program in North America and has provided presentations, workshops and mentoring to over 2,000 clinicians. Dr. Shenker has published in peer-reviewed journals and contributed chapters on stuttering to various textbooks. Her most recent work emphasizes the treatment of bilingual children who stutter.  Read full profile >
